A recent look into what a session with me can be like. A big thank you to Jorja (of Jorja Dempsey Photography) for filming the session on the day. Enjoy! xx
While packing the last of our things into the car after a tiring day of packing up, chucking out and moving things, we watched the most beautiful sun set over the property that I have called my home for 32 years.
The golden light touches the old weatherboard farm house and it was then that I remembered how beautiful this place really was. Memories came flooding back of Christmases, birthday celebrations, dinner parties, school friend sleepovers, home made Go-cart tracks and competitive sibling tennis matches on the court.
I look back and realise how lucky I was to have lived a life like I did. To have wide open spaces to ride bikes freely, learn how to drive manual in “old bomb” utes across the paddocks while chucking out hay to the sheep on the back tray and jumping in bales of freshly shawn wool, coming out with skin so soft from the lanolin.
All of the memories will follow us out the gate and down the single lane road, unlike the things that we packed into the car, these memories, life lessons and moments will stay with us forever and remind us of a loving childhood, one that we will love to offer our own children, as we look to the next chapter of our lives.
Last year, I received a message from a friend’s sister. The message was about how she had been “stalking” my Instagram and how she absolutely loves my photography. I thought, Wow! that’s awesome, and then as I continued reading the message I read the words “Would you like to photograph my wedding in December 2018?” ……..Holy Shit Balls! ……….. A wedding!? ………….. Where you only get one day, …………one chance, ……… You can not stuff it up!
After thinking about it, quickly declining it, I then changed my mind and (crazily?) accepted it…. why? because I love taking photos, I adore capturing love, happiness and real connections. Why wouldn’t I want to take up the opportunity to capture one of the happiest, fun and romantic days of a couple’s life? This is why I get my camera out, this is why I take photos, this is why I love doing what I’m doing.
To be able to get as much experience in as I can leading up to the wedding, I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone and opened my lifestyle photography business. Since opening in January this year, I have already had quite a few sessions where I have had such beautiful clients creating memorable moments. From squishy little newborns to giggly, cheeky siblings, seeing how each person portrays their emotion of love towards one another is beautiful.
Whether it be photographing weddings, families or newborns I have found one real message in every photo and that is LOVE. I love photography and I love photographing Love. Love is what makes us happy and as some say love is what makes the world go round.
